Doodles Creek

Doodles Creek & the Best Preserve

Monday, November 13, 2017

Having moved from Sydney to the Southern Highlands in 2002, the Ross family decided to start their own business and with food being one of their passions, it seemed only fitting to start making it themselves.

They started Doodles Creek, named after a creek that ran alongside their family farm, and began selling mayonnaise at farmers markets in Bowral and Sydney.

Demand grew quickly, with many gourmet retailers after their products and so the range expanded to include dressings, relishes and pasta sauces.

In 2017, Doodles Creek won Best Preserve at the Australian Food Awards for their Indian Wedding Chutney, the inspiration for which came from a trip to Delhi to attend a wedding.

“We loved the carrot and dried fruit combination together with Garam Masala and think it is delicious with cheese, ham and turkey,” said owner, Sarah Ross.

“The Indian Wedding Chutney is cooked slowly so that the carrot has an interesting texture and a bit of crunch and also has a kick of chilli which pairs well with cold meats and cheese.”

Quality is important to Doodles Creek and where possible they source Australian ingredients and sustainable, recyclable packaging.

Despite being a family-run business, with all product development occurring in the family kitchen, the Ross family hope the business continues to grow.

“We would love to export our products eventually, who knows – maybe back to India!”

Doodles Creek products can be purchased around Australia in specialty retail stores, delis, fruit and vegetable shops and independent grocers. If you can’t find a shop near you, contact Sarah and she will assist.
