Go for Gold: The best IPAs to try in 2019

The popularity of the India Pale Ale or IPA continues with loads of breweries releasing new versions like “juicy or hazy” IPAs which can be reminiscent of tropical fruit juice. Yum!

IPAs were awarded over 30 gold medals in the recent Australian International Beer Awards so if you’ve got a large IPA-sized hole in your life, this list of gold medal-winning beers will fill that gap.

1. At the very top of the list is the Hawkers West Coast IPA brewed in Victoria by Hawkers Brewery.
Not for the faint hearted, this big hoppy bitter West Coast style IPA with huge floral, fruity, and piny aromas is the best of the best (Best IPA, 2019 AIBA).

2. Sleeping Giant IPA, draught, Gage Roads Brewing Co, WA, Australia
With caramel malt and overripe stone fruit character, this British-style IPA is rich with balanced with a big bitter finish.

3. Goose Irish IPA, draught, Goose Island, Korea
A juicy British-style IPA with big, bracing, piney hop flavors which meet a tropical bouquet of hops. There’s a balanced bitterness that blends seamlessly into the light to medium body.

4. Balter IPA, packaged, Balter Brewing, QLD, Australia
This American-style IPA has a clean hoppy base offering a relentless, yet refined bitterness complemented by pine and citrus aromatics.

5. Super Hop West Coast IPA, draught, Blackman's Brewing, VIC, Australia

This beer smells like pineapple juice and tastes like beer. A big juicy one at that, with some serious hop oil action. German Specialty Pale Malts maintain brightness and balance.
