Last week at the first ever Jimmy Watson Trophy Lunch we celebrated the trophy winners fresh from the Royal Melbourne Wine Awards, including the newly crowned Jimmy Watson Trophy winning wine.
The Jimmy was awarded to The Wild Fig S.G.M (2018), a blend of Shiraz, Grenache and Mourvedre sourced from Langhorne Creek and produced by Bleasdale Vineyards Winemaker Paul Hotker.
Affectionately known as "The Jimmy" in the wine industry, the coveted trophy was first awarded in 1962. It's named after the legendary Jimmy Watson who championed table wine in the Australian food and beverage industry and at his Carlton wine bar.
The Jimmy Watson Trophy Lunch was a fun event which amplified the celebrations of the Awards the night before.
It was great to have the winners in the room to continue their celebrations and chat to us about their award-winning wines. Most importantly, we had the first taste of the 2019 Jimmy Watson winner, and the other trophy-winners. There were extraordinary wines matched with a 5-course menu, talented winemakers and an atmosphere in the room which was electric.
