Milawa Free Range Poultry

Sunday, November 12, 2017

Chicken that tastes how chicken used to taste. This is what Russell Mickle set out to achieve when he started Milawa Free Range Poultry in 1999.

After a slow start, Milawa Poultry has grown into a solid small business with 18 staff and three family members working full time.

The team recognised early on that free range was becoming the accepted method of producing poultry and took a hands-on approach to raising the chickens.

Russell believes in a common sense, long term approach to sustainable farming and hopes to continue growing the business into the future.

“We will continue to grow our business to keep up with demand but at our own measured pace,” said Russell.

“It has become something that can now be passed on to future generations, rather than just a way to make a living.”

Milawa Poultry is now on the menu at more than 60 restaurants and cafes, available for home delivery and in around 40 retailers, which can be found on the ‘About’ section of their Facebook page.

Milawa Poultry won Best Poultry at the 2017 Australian Food Awards.
