How a love for the garden led to a ‘blushing’ business

Located on the mid-north coast of New South Wales, Blushing Blueberries, a newly established organic orchard, grew out of owner Sandi Cleary’s love for gardening.

After retiring from a Management Consultancy career in the city, where Sandi had felt stressed and overworked, the love of gardening took hold and she completed a Diploma of Horticulture and a Diploma of Organic Farming, winning the Australian Institute of Horticulture’s Student of the Year Award.

Using the best possible practices to improve the health of soil, providing habitat for native animals and working in harmony with nature, Sandi set about producing the most nutrient dense, flavourful and delicious blueberries possible.


With a philosophy to product honest, health giving products utilising traditional farming skills and local environmental knowledge, Blushing Blueberries now produce jam, chutney, cordial, dessert sauce and balsamic with the tiny antioxidant-filled fruit at the core.

“Our products are all organic, handmade, fair trade and infused with love using only the finest blueberries possible,” says Sandi.

“Our Blueberry Shrub in particular (which was awarded a Silver Medal at last year’s Australian Food Awards) is a wonderful example of bringing back a much treasured recipe from the past and turning into an on-trend produce just right for the way we live today.”
